FSAE-EV-EV2 - Drivetrain Lead

EV2 is the latest Formula Student racecar being developed by Binghamton motorsports, representing the 3rd fully electric vehicle designed by the team. With completion targeted for February of 2026, as Drivetrain lead i oversee and produce a effective drive unit for the vehicle. As well as smaller tasks such as cooling and driver inputs.

Pedal Box
A complete redesign of the pedal assembly was completed this season to improve driver ergonomics and reduce mass. The new design increased driver legroom by approximately 6 inches while achieving a 30% reduction in weight through structural optimization of the pedal arms.

Cooling
For the first time in team history, EV2 will employ a rear-mounted radiator configuration. This design eliminates drag-inducing side pods and simplifies coolant routing, resulting in improved aerodynamic efficiency and a more streamlined cooling system layout. EV2 also made the switch from a water to oil based coolant. Calling for new pressure drop, mass flow rate, and heat transfer calculations to be done proceeding the specification of a new stronger fluid pump.
